Each monotype was made by flooding an oversized printing plate with very liquid inks.
After each print was pulled, an inky residue was left behind on the plate, at times quite faint, at times still vivid. To this residue more inks were added and manipulated so that each print is generated by the previous and each bears a physical, indexical kinship with the others.
The suite of monotypes subtly changes over time, as water vapor assumes shape through wind and temperature, and we assign names – Stratocumulus, Cirrus, Nimbostratus -- for these always-moving forms.
